Sourav Ganguly health: Medical board decides against further angioplasty

Kolkata: The south Kolkata hospital, where former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is currently admitted, on Monday said the medical board has decided he will not need any further angioplasty for the remaining blockages in his coronary arteries.

"The consensus of the board was that deferring the angioplasty for now is deemed to be a safer option since Mr Ganguly is stable, without any chest pain and is on optimal medical management," read the medical bulletin released by the hospital.

"The family members were present during the board meeting and were explained about the disease process and further therapeutic plan," it said.

"Treating doctors will be  keeping constant vigil on his health situation and taking appropriate measures daily at home once discharged," the bulletin said.

The former skipper and the current BCCI chief was diagnosed with three blocked coronary arteries on Saturday.

A stent was inserted in one of the blocked arteries to remove the blockage.

Ganguly is considered as one of the most successful skippers to play for the country.

Under his guidance, India had played in the final of the 2003 World Cup. Australia had won the title by beating his side in the 50-over tournament.

He retired from international cricket in 2008.

In his playing career, Ganguly played 113 tests and 311 one-dayers and led India to 21 test wins.
