Shreyas Iyer may be added to T20 World Cup squad: Reports

| @indiablooms | Sep 29, 2021, at 04:44 pm

Mumbai/IBNS: Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer is being prepared as a backup to the national team for the upcoming T20 World Cup after several players were seen going through off-form in the last leg of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, media reports said.

The Indian cricket board is reportedly worried over the forms of Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, who play for Mumbai Indians, in the ongoing IPL.

"Yes, it is a bit of a concern but we still have a few matches left in the IPL to get them back in form. Hopefully, they will. Suryakumar has been amongst runs for India so he is not a big concern at the moment. Ishan Kishan too did well in Sri Lanka. Virat also spoke to him on Sunday and let’s see how it goes," a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source told InsideSport.

"We have Shreyas Iyer as the backup, if there are any concerns, he could be added. But it’s too early to say anything. Ishan Kishan is an important player and so are Suryakumar and others. There is no point speculating," the source added.

The BCCI is allowed to change their squad for the tournament till Oct 10.
