Sharapova survives huge scare, cruises to next round

Melbourne, Jan 21 (IBNS): Russian Tennis icon Maria Sharapova survived a scare and fought back to cruise to the Australian Open third round after beating Russian qualifier Alexandra Panova here on Wednesday.

She defeated her fellow Russian opponent 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.

Saving two match points and using his experience, Sharapova was successful in beating the world number 150 in a 152 match clash.

“I’m just happy to get through,” a relieved Sharapova was quoted as saying by ausopen.com.

In the men's singles UK's Andy Murray moved to the third round by beating Marinko Matosevic 6-1 6-3 6-2.

Swiss Tennis icon Roger Federer reached the third round by posting a  3-6 6-3 6-2 6-2 victory over Italy's Simone Bolelli.
He came back strongly to win the  match after he lost the first round against the Italian.
