Shankhodip De, Rajanya Dutta finish on top at WB State Chess Championship

Kolkata, Apr 28 (IBNS): Shankhodip De and Rajanya Dutta finished on top in the State Chess Championship U-11 open and U-11 girls category respectively with an unbeaten scorecard.

Shankhodip managed a draw in the final round and scored 7.5 points out of 8 rounds to clinch the title while Ritwik Chakraborty and Debaprabho Gorai both scored 7 points each and secured runner-up and 3rd position respectively.

In the girls' category, in a nail-biting match in the final round Rajanya beat Jagriti Agarwal and claimed the title with 6.5 points out of possible 7. Mrittika Mallick (6 points) and Jagriti (5.5 points) shared 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

Top players of the merit list will represent Bengal in the upcoming U-11 National Chess Championship to be held at Delhi. This West Bengal State U-11 Chess championship was organized by Kolkata District Chess Association and Shahid Smriti Sangha under the aegis of Bengal Chess Association from 25th-28th April at Dhakuria, Kolkata.
