Sarfaraz Ahmed defends decision of fielding first against India in Sunday's World Cup clash, PM Imran Khan had suggested to bat first

Manchester, June 17 (IBNS): After India defeated Pakistan in a World Cup match in Manchester on Sunday, captain Sarfaraz Ahmed defended his decision of fielding first after winning the toss but accepted that his team is not performing well in all three departments.

India defeated Pakistan by 89 runs in the Sunday clash between the old rivals via  the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Pakistan have not won a single World Cup match against India so far in the history of the game.

"I think we won a good toss. I think we didn't capitalise that [to the fullest] — when we saw the pitch, a little bit of moisture on the pitch, we used the conditions. I think we didn't hit the right areas and created for the hitters while they played really well through that," the Pakistani skipper was quoted as saying by Dawn News in a post match press conference.

"I think you need to talk about the whole team — I think whole team is not performing well in all three departments," he said.

Pakistani PM Imran Khan, who is also the country's only World Cup winning skipper, had earlier adviced Ahmed before the start of the game in a tweet that he should bat first after winning the toss.

" In order ro have a winning offensive strategy Sarfaraz must go in with specialist batsmen and bowlers because "Raillu Kattas" rarely perform under pressure - especially the intense kind that will be generated today. 2. Unless pitch is damp, Sarfaraz must win the toss & bat," Khan had tweeted.

Under Khan, Pakistan had won the 50-over cricket tournament in 1992.
