Rohit's 264 powers India to victory against SL

Kolkata, Nov 13 (IBNS): In a record-breaking ODI, India defeated Sri Lanka by massive 153 runs in the fourth match of the series here on Thursday with opener Rohit Sharma creating 264 runs.

Riding on Sharma's massive score, India had posted 404 runs on the scorecard for the loss of five wickets and then bowled out Sri Lanka for 251 runs.

Dhawal Kulkarni took four wickets for India to destroy the Sri Lankan side.

Sharma hammered 33 boundaries and nine sixes in his 173-ball knock which helped the hosts post a mammoth total on the scorecard.

Virat Kohli added 66 runs with his willow before getting run out as along with Sharma both added 202 runs in the third wicket partnership.

Sharma and Robin Uthappa (16*) added 128 runs in the fifth wicket partnership, though most of the runs were scored by the opener.

Angelo Mathews took two wickets in the innings for Sri Lanka.

Angelo Mathews (75) and Lahiru Thirimanne (59) were the only two batsmen to contribute some runs with their willows while the rest failed to deliver as the Indian bowlers finished the task of destroying the innings.

Setting a  new world record,  Sharma shattered Virender Sehwag's 219 runs to become the highest scorer in an ODI innings.

India took a 4-0 lead in the series following Thursday's victory.

Eden Gardens and its spectators have seen several records being written on this ground in the past, again  witnessed another spectacular innings which will shine forever in the history of the stadium forever.
