Visakhapatnam, Oct 2 (UNI) Openers Rohit Sharma's brilliant century 115 and Mayank Agarwal 84 remained not out as rain forced early stumps on day one of the first Test against South Africa here at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

At stumps Rohit 115 off 174 (12 fours 5 sixes) and Mayank 84 off 183 (11 fours 2 sixes) remained unbeaten.

This was Rohit's fourth century and his first as opener in Test. Earlier on Tuesday during the pre-match press conference skipper Virat Kohli had confirmed that Rohit would be opening in the first Test.

Even after reaching his century, Rohit Sharma continued to play with similar intent and was well supported by Mayank Agrawal as the openers took India to 202/0 at Tea on Day 1.

The Vizag Test also marked Rohit Sharma's first appearance in the longest format since India's tour to Australia in December 2018.

The Mumbai batsman has made 28 Test appearance for India and scored at an average of 39.62. Apart from the four centuries, he has also scored 10 half-centuries in the longest format.
