Roha to host 'Mr. India' bodybuilding

Mumbai, Feb 17 (IBNS) : The spectator friendly sport of Bodybuilding is all set to make a big splash in the idyllic Konkan region with the industrial town of Roha being the venue for the 9th Senior Men’s and Women’s Bodybuilding Championships to be held from March 11-13, 2016.

India’s top bodybuilders drawn from more than two dozen states, institutional sports promotion boards and the armed and para-military forces will be flexing their muscles for a whopping prize-money totaling Rupees 40 lakhs.

The winner of the prestigious overall title will be richer by Rupees 5 lakhs with the second and third placed contestants pocketing Rupees 3 lakh and 1 lakh respectively. The event will be held under the aegis of the Maharashtra Bodybuilding Association and Raigad Body Builders Assopciation.

The event will be held over a period of three days at the C D Deshmukh Town Hall, Roha. The pre-judging event will take place on Mar 12 and the finals on February 13 followed by the Prize-distribution in the evening.

The Mr. India competition will see the athletes vying for honours in ten weight groups as follows: 55kg, 60 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 75kg, 80 kg, 85 kg, 90 kg, 90+ kg, 100+ kg. The other three events namely the Senior Women’s Bodybuilding, Men’s and Women’s Physique Championships will have only an open weight groups.

The awards and prizes for all the events and groups are as follows: the first three athletes in each group will receive medal and the prize money for the first five athletes will be Rupees 50, 45, 40, 35, 30 thousand respectively making it a total amount of Rupees 2 lakhs. This totals to Rupees 26 lakhs at the group stage and overall competition in four events.


There will be competition for the best poser and the award for this is worth Rupees 50 thousand. In addition there will be a consolation award worth the same amount for the most improved bodybuilder.
