London, July 16 (IBNS): Setting new record and touching new parameter, Swiss Tennis master Roger Federer clinched his eighth Wimbledon title here on Sunday.

He became the first player to win the title eight times.

This was his 19th Grand Slam victory.

Federer defeated Marin Cilic  6-3 6-1 6-4 to win the match and lift the title at the end of the one hour and 41 minutes clash.

Federer won his first Wimbledon title since 2012.

He is the oldest man in the open era to win the title.

After the victory, Federer said: "It's cruel sometimes but [Marin] fought well and he's a hero. Congrats on a wonderful tournament."

In the crucial final clash, Cilic struggled in the match with blisters on his left foot.
