Ravi Shastri lashes out at Dhoni's critics, asks them to 'look back at their careers'

Shastri's comment came after two former Indian cricketers, VVS Laxman and Ajit Agarkar, raised questions on Dhoni's T20I career after the latter's slow batting against New Zealand in the second T20I of the recently concluded bilateral series.

While interacting with media, Shastri said:"People should look back at their career before commenting on Dhoni. The captain has a lot of cricket left in him and it is the duty of the team to back the legend."

"There is no one better than Dhoni on the field given his ability behind the wicket and with the bat and his presence of mind and sharpness on the field.," the head coach added.

In the second match of the T20I series against New Zealand, Dhoni failed to strike the ball hard right from the beginning of the innings. Though later the former skipper went for big shots but all that were too late to win the match.

The two-time World Cup winning captain has already retired from the test format and also stepped down as the leader in late 2016.

Laxman, who has retired from the international cricket years ago, played number of memorable knocks for Indian test team. He is greatly remembered for his 281 runs innings against Australia in 2001.

Agarkar was one of the pace bowlers in the Indian cricket team for several years.

Shastri is presently in the city as India will play against Sri Lanka in the first test match of a bilateral series at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata from Nov. 16.

India did not lose any series in the 2017-2018 season so far.
