Chennai, Aug 9 (IBNS) India A defeated South Africa A by 8 wickets to win the 50 overs match here on Sunday.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat first, South Africa A scored 244 as they were bowled out in the last ball of their innings.

Setting out to bat, the Indian opening pair of Mayank Agarwal and Unmukt Chand made light of the target, as they put up a mammoth 219 runs for the opening wicket.

Quinton de Kock, a member of the senior national team, scored 108 off 124 balls. His innings was laden with 13 boundaries and a hit on the stands.

Dane Vilas, who made his debut for the senior team against Bangladesh a month ago, scored 50 off identical balls. He also hit identical numbers of boundaries, 3 each.

For India A, the bowlers bowled a much better line after they were sent for a leather hurt in the last game against the Australian A side.

Rishi Dhawan was the pick of the bowlers, picking up 4 wickets for 49 runs in his allotted 10 overs. Sandeep Sharma picked up 2 for 46 runs. The Punjab lad also bowled a maiden over. One each was picked up by Karn Sharma, Axar Patel and Dhawal Kulkarni.

Agarwal, who was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match, scored 130 runs off 122 deliveries with the help of sixteen boundaries and a six.

Skipper Unmukt Chand fell 10 short of his hundred, departing for 90 runs as he tried to pull a half tracker from Dean Elgar and was beaten by its pace. The ball kept low and struck him in front of the wickets. He hit eight boundaries and a couple of sixes.

Elgar was expensive in his eight overs, giving away 69 runs, though he picked up a wicket. Lonwabo Tsotsobe picked up the other wicket. He gave away 32 runs.

The Indian A side finished off the match with 12.2 overs (74 balls) remaining.

In another interesting development, the schedule for the tournament has been changed as 8 South African A players were admitted sick. With the new format in place, India A will face-off against Australia A on Monday as opposed to South Africa A, who were going to feature in that match as per the older schedule.
