Pakistan Super League will be no.1 in world: PCB chief’s bold IPL challenge

| @indiablooms | Apr 06, 2026, at 10:18 am

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has claimed that the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the T20 league played in the neighbouring nation, will become the world's biggest T20 competition, posing a challenge to the Indian Premier League.

He remarked at a time when Pakistan is hosting the PSL under massive constraints, with matches being played only in two venues, amid the ongoing Middle East tension.

On the contrary, the Indian Premier League, one of the biggest franchise cricket tournaments in the world, is currently being held across multiple venues without disruptions.

“The PSL has now become the best market for investment,” Naqvi was quoted as saying by Geo Super after the 82nd BoG meeting, held at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

“The time is not far when the PSL will become the world’s number one league," he said.

Naqvi's claim has been made despite significant gaps between the two tournaments.

The IPL’s media rights are valued at around USD 6 billion, compared to approximately USD 93 million for the PSL, reported Hindustan Times.

The IPL’s annual revenue exceeds USD 1 billion, while the PSL is estimated to generate close to USD 60 million, the Indian newspaper reported.

He is dreaming: Fans troll Naqvi for his remarks

Meanwhile, he is facing online trolls for his remarks, with some X users mocking him by saying that he was 'dreaming'.

One internet user wrote: "Splash some water on his face...He is in dream."

Another said: "Naqvi needs a psychiatrist. But pak healthcare is zero. Infrastructure zero. Economic development zero. Educational system zero. Stolen trophies few. Won zero. Six wars lost. Honor lost. Credibility lost. Self respect lost. Delusion reigns supreme in empty craniums."

Another said: "He’s in the dream, please wake up."
