Pakistan may not send team for World Cup if India pulls out from Asia Cup: Reports

| @indiablooms | Oct 19, 2022, at 02:56 pm

Islamabad:  Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is deliberating not to participate in the 2023 World Cup set to take place in India next year, amid reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) might not send its team to the neighbouring nation to compete in Asia Cup.

PCB started contemplating several options and not participating in the mega cricket tournament next year is also under consideration, reports Geo News.

Sources told Geo News that a meeting of the board's think tank is undergoing in Lahore in which matters including Asia Cup participation and India's denial are being discussed.

The PCB, as per sources, would be declaring the ACC President and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah's decision on the tour unnecessary and hasty, further noting that Shah cannot take a unilateral decision by himself.

India is slated to host the World Cup next year.

India and Pakistan have only played against each other in global tournaments like Asia Cup and World Cup for the past several years.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that India will not travel to Pakistan for next year's Asia Cup.

The decision was taken at the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) held here on Tuesday.

India will demand to move next year's continental tournament to a neutral venue.

"Neutral venue for Asia Cup is not unprecedented and we have decided that we will not travel to Pakistan," Cricbuzz quoted Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI and president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

The 2023 Asia Cup in Pakistan will mark the return of a major cricketing tournament to the Asian nation after over two decades.
