Nottingham, Aug 18 (IBNS): Though skipper Virat Kohli missed out a chance to hit another century in the English soil, India are steady at 307/6 at stumps on the first day of the third Test match against England at Trent Bridge here on Saturday.

Kohli, who scored a hundred in the first Test match, was dismissed at 97. Facing 152 balls, the skipper hit 11 fours.

Kohli was aptly supported by his deputy Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 81 runs off 131 balls.

Rahane and Kohli together helped India with a 159-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Towards the end of the day's play, all rounder Hardik Patel was dismissed by James Anderson at 18.

Debutant wicket-keeper batsman Rishav Pant is at the crease, scoring 22 (32).

English fast bowler Chris Woakes picked up three wickets for 75 runs in 20 overs.
