Not retiring, MS Dhoni takes sabbatical to serve paramilitary regiment

Mumbai, July 20 (IBNS): Ending speculations over his retirement, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he will be busy serving the paramilitary regiment for next two months making himself unavailable for the team selection against Windies.

Dhoni, who holds the honorary post of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute regime of the Territorial Army, said he made the commitment to serve the regiment prior to World Cup 2019.

Meanwhile, the team selectors will meet on Sunday to pick the team for India's upcoming Windies tour scheduled to begin on August 8.

Talks of Dhoni's retirement was doing the round after the former skipper's performance came under the scanner due to his poor strike rate in the recently-concluded World Cup.

Though he scored 273 runs in 9 innings, Dhoni failed to win matches for India at crucial junctures in a number of matches.
