Mumbai Indians beat Royal Challengers Bangalore

Bangalore, Apr 19 (IBNS) Mumbai Indians registered their first win in the eighth edition of the Indian Premier League as they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 18 runs here at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.

Valuable contributions from Lendl Simmons (59), Unmukt Chand (58) and captain Rohit Sharma (42) helped Mumbai post a mammoth total of 209 for the loss seven wickets against RCB.

The bowlers then finished off the task by restricting the opponents for 191 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs.

Rohit Sharma's 42 came off just 15 balls during which he hit 4 sixes and 3 fours.

Unmukt Chand and Lendl Simmons hit 2 sixes each.

Royal Challengers Bangalore's top order failed to provide them the start that was needed to chase down a big target.

Chris Gayle disappointed fans as he took 24 balls to score 10 runs and was eventually dismissed by Harbhajan Singh.

AB De Villiers, who came to the crease at number 5, showed some signs of promise as he scored 41 runs of his first 10 balls. only to be caught by at long on by Kieron Pollard on the 11th delivery he faced.

Thereafter, David Wiese put up a valiant but failing effort to reach close to the target as they fell 19 runs short of the target in the end.

Harbhajan Singh took 3 wickets by conceding 27 runs during his four overs.
