May have political differences with him but want to wish Shahid Afridi speedy recovery from COVID-19: Gautam Gambhir

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir said he may have political differences with Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi but he will want him to recover fast from COVID-19.

“Nobody should be infected with this virus. I have political differences with Shahid Afridi but I want him to recover as soon as possible. But more than Afridi I want every person infected in my country to get well as soon as possible,” Gauram Gambhir was quoted as saying by India Today.

“I have to worry about the people in my country. Pakistan has offered to help India but they need to provide help in their own country first. They have offered to help and I am thankful for that but first they need to eradicate the cross-border terrorism," he said.

Afridi has tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus or Covid-19.

Afridi said he was feeling unwell since Thursday so he got tested for the contagion.

"I’ve been feeling unwell since Thursday; my body has been aching badly. I’ve been tested and unfortunately I’m covid positive. Need prayers for a speedy recovery, InshaAllah," Afridi tweeted.

Some media reports claimed that Shahid Afridi might have contracted the highly infectious disease during his recent visit to Muzaffarabad city of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) where Pakistan has been sending its corona positive patients.

The former Pakistan cricketer was seen attending gatherings in Muzaffarabad last month without wearing a mask and not maintaining social distancing. He spewed venom against India during his rallies, reported ANI news agency.

Meanwhile, Shahid thanked his fans and colleagues for wishing him.

Shahid tweeted, "A quick message to thank everybody who’s been praying for my recovery and for the heartfelt messages I’ve been receiving; thank you so much. Please stay safe & continue to look out for those who need help during these testing times. Lots of love for you all."

Pakistan registered 141517 COVID-19 cases so far.

The country has marked 2647 deaths.
