Maria Sharapova reaches Australian Open quarter-finals

Melbourne, Jan 24 (IBNS): Russian Tennis star Maria Sharapova reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open women's singles event here on Sunday.

She defeated Swiss  Belinda Bencic 7-5 7-5 to reach the round.

She will face US star Serena Williams in  the quarter-finals.

Defending champions Serena Margarita Gasparyan 6-2 6-1 in 55 minutes to set a date for her clash against Maria in the next round.

It will be a rematch of the Australian Open final last year where Serena had defeated the Russian player to clinch the title.
