Manchester United names Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as caretake manager

| @indiablooms | Dec 19, 2018, at 03:57 pm

London, Dec 19 (IBNS): British football giant Manchester United on Wednesday announced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed as caretaker manager until the end of the 2018/19 season.

"Solskjær scored 126 goals in 366 appearances for United between 1996 and 2007. In 2008 he became the club’s reserve-team manager, before taking the managerial role at FC Molde in Norway," the club said in a statement.

Solskjær will take charge of the first team with immediate effect and will remain in place while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new full-time manager.

He will be joined by Mike Phelan as first-team coach, working alongside Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna.

The club on Tuesday removed  Jose Mourinho as the coach.

"Manchester United has announced that Jose Mourinho has left the Club. We would like to thank him for his work during his time at Manchester United and wish him success in the future. #MUFC," the club tweeted.

The announcement was made at a time when the club made a poor start to a league season in 28 years and were beaten 3-1 by arch-rivals Liverpoool on Sunday.

It was Jose's final match as the coach of the iconic club.
