Mamata expresses profound grief at passing away of football legend Chuni Goswami

Kolkata/UNI: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday expressed her profound grief at the passing away of football legend Chuni Goswami.

Taking to her Twitter handle, Ms Banerjee said, " I am deeply saddened to know that football

legend Chuni Goswami is no more. A real star and a football icon, he was amongst the greatestplayers that Indian football has ever seen. "

" He was a versatile personality who brought many laurels to the country and to Bengal,"she stated.Chuni Goswami passed away around 5 PM in Kolkata on Thursday due to cardiac arrest.

He was 82.Goswami had been suffering from underlying ailments for long.He was admitted to a city hospital earlier in the day and breathed his last at 5 PM due to cardiac arrest.

The captain of the 1962 Asian Games gold-medal winning team, Goswami also represented .Bengal in first-class cricket tournaments.
