Kolkata's Lake Club dominate on second day of 80th ARAE-FEARA Regatta
Kolkata/IBNS: Hosts Lake Club performed well to win six of their preliminary round races and were followed by Madras Boat Club and Bengal Rowing Club, both winning five first round races each, on the second day of the 80th ARAE-FEARA Regatta Championship on Rabindra Sarobar Lake in Kolkata on Tuesday.
Calcutta Rowing Club — the other strong contender — also won four initial round races on the second day of the championship.
Meanwhile at the Indoor Rowing segment of the championship which was held on the inaugural day, seasoned campaigners Siddhart Sunil (Men 1000m) of Madras Boat Club, Sweta Bramhachar (Women 1000m) and Priya Mukherjee (500m for women above 35 years) both from Lake Club lived up to the expectation and bagged a gold each in their respective categories.
Others to win the top position in Indoor Rowing are Rohit Kumar Singh of Lake Club (500m for sub-junior Boys), Ritsika Das of Bengal Rowing Club (500m for sub-junior girls), Avijit Majumder of Bengal Rowing Club (500m for men above 35 years), Suvojit Sengupta of Calcutta Rowing Club (500m for men above 50 years), Sumana Konar from Bengal Rowing Club (Woman above 50 years), Ranjan Banerjee from Bengal Rowing Club (250m for men above 60 years) and R Kanjanatha from Thailand (250m for Women above 60 years).
