Kolkata gears up for IPL opening night celebration

Kolkata, Apr 7 (IBNS): Kolkata is gearing up for another dazzling night as Bollywood stars and cricketers will descend down at the Salt Lake Stadium in the city where the annual T20 cricket extravaganza- Indian Premier League- will commence the journey of its eighth season on Tuesday.

The cash-rich tournament, which started in 2008, unites Bollywood and cricket and this time the opening ceremony will see Farhan Akhtar and Band, Shahid Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Pritam and Band and Hrithik Roshan , setting the stage on fire as large number of people are expected to throng the stadium to witness the glitzy  event.

Eight teams will be participating in the tournament this year.

Captains from all the sides will be present in the opening night.

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir , who won the last edition of the mega T20 event, will put the trophy back in play and thus signal the start of the 2015 season of the competition.

As the city experienced rains in the past two days, people are keeping their fingers crossed that the ceremony, which is scheduled to start from 7.30 pm, is not marred due to such reasons on Tuesday.

"Thundersquall may occur in some areas during AN/EVN," the  India Meteorological Department (IMD) website said for Kolkata.

KKR and Mumbai Indians will face each other in the first match of the tournament on Wednesday.
