Adelaide, Dec 11 (IBNS): Skipper Virat Kohli smashed a gutsy 115 and got support from Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane at the other end to give Australia a strong reply to finish the third day at 369 for five here on Thursday.

Chasing a massive 517 for seven posted by Australia, India needed their batsmen to deliver and that was perfectly done by Kohli and his team.

Kohli, who made his Test debut in this match, looked positive as he smashed 12 boundaries in his knock.

Kohli joined Pujara (73) to add 81 runs in the third wicket partnership and then added 101 in the fourth wicket partnership with Rahane to help India give a perfect reply to the massive total posted by the hosts.

Kohli played Ryan Harris and Johnson well to keep things in India's control.

It was for the first time in three days that India dominated strongly after the hosts had too command of the first two days of the match.

Johnson and Nathan Lyon took two wickets each for Australia.
