Kohli becomes fastest cricketer to reach 6,000 runs club

Hyderabad, Nov 9 (IBNS): India's batting sensation Virat Kohli on Sunday became the fastest batsman to touch the 6,000 ODI runs mark during the third match against Sri Lanka here.

Needing just 50 runs, Kohli hit a half century to touch the new record.

"Virat Kohli moves to 50 and becomes the fastest player in history to 6,000 ODI runs, as India close on series victory," ICC tweeted.

Kohli, who is captaining the side in the absence of regular skipper MS Dhoni in the ongoing ODI series against Srti Lanka, scored 53 in the match.

India also defeated the neighbours to win the match and clinch the series with two more ODIs still left to be played.

Congratulating Kohli, former Indian batsman VVS Laxman tweeted: "Congrats to @imVkohli to become the quickest to reach 6000runs. More records to be broken from this outstanding talent."

Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh said: "Congratulations to Mr cheekoo @ImViratkohli for being the fastest to reach 6000 runs in odi cricket ! What an amazing feat many more to come."

Former Lankan all-rounder Russel Arnold tweeted: "Fastest to 6K in ODI'S ..what a player VIRAT KOHLI. ..and a lot more to come. .Well done !!!"
