KL Rahul shines as India pull off four-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Kolkata

Kolkata/IBNS: Indian batter KL Rahul on Thursday put a brake on the criticisms over his inconsistent performances by slamming an unbeaten 64 in leading the men-in-blue to pull off a victory over Sri Lanka in the second One Day International (ODI) at the the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Rahul's 64 was full of patience in surviving 103 balls and surviving a crucial 75-run partnership with all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the run chase on a winter night.

The partnership prevented India's batting from facing further challenges as the hosts were reduced to 86/4 when Pandya was out in the middle.

Though Pandya was dismissed for 36 off 53 balls, Rahul kept his cool and ensured India's win.

Earlier, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 215 in 39.4 overs.

The Indian bowlers made the visitors' task tough, courtesy Mohammed Siraj (3/30), Kuldeep Yadav (3/51) and Umran Malik (2/48).

Also with the win, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI contest.
