KL Rahul, Kohli shine to take India to 342/5

With Australia posting a mammoth 572 for seven on the scorecard, India gave a fitting response to the Australian batsmen by posting 342  for five on the scorecard, still trailing the hosts by 230 runs.

The fourth day will depend a lot on Kohli, who will resume the proceedings with Wriddhiman Saha (14).

With skipper MS Dhoni announcing his retirement after the third Test, Saha has a good oppurtunity to prove himself as a perfect replacement for the former Indian Test skipper.

Rohit Sharma and Rahul resumed the proceedings on the fourth day as India had left the day at 71 for one at the end of the third day's play.

Sharma went on to add another half-century by his name and scored 53 runs.

Nathan Lyon removed him to bring Kohli to the crease.

Both Kohli and  Rahul joined hands to add 141 runs on the third wicker partnership and hence give a strong reply to Australian bowlers.

India ended the day with the loss of three more wickets of Rahul, Ajinkya Rahane (13) and Suresh Raina (0).A determined Saha and man-in-form skipper Kohli who batted the rest of the session to finish the day's play without any further damage.

It was, however, Rahul's innings that remained the key highlight for the day as the young batsman hit 13 boundaries and six in his knock.

Mitchell Starc  and Shane Watson have picked up two wickets each while Lyon has scalped one.

Australia have already won the series 2-0.
