Indian selectors surprised by adding pacer Jasprit Bumrah to the Test squad against Bangladesh amid clamours that he would be rested for the series.

BCCI named the squad for the first Test.

Rishabh Pant, who was out of the cricket field for a long period of time following a massive accident, returned to the Test arena after a gap of more than 20 months.

He played a pivotal role in India's recent T20 World Cup victory in West Indies.

He made his return to competitive cricket only this year with Indian Premier League.

The selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not name a vice-captain in the team.

Bumrah was named the vice-captain during India's last Test assignment against England.

The BCCI did not state any reason behind not naming a vice-captain for the series.

Uttar Pradesh fast bowler Yash Dayal received a maiden call while senior pacer Mohammed Shami remained missing.

Kohli made the comeback to the squad after missing the England series due to the birth of his second child.

India will travel to Chennai to play the first Test between Sept 19 to Sept 23.

The second test will be played in Kanpur from Sept 27 to October 1.

India’s squad for the 1st Test of the Bangladesh Test series: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Yash Dayal.
