Jammu and Kashmir's Armless archer Sheetal Devi,18, clinches gold at Para World Archery Championships
Indian archer Sheetal Devi, 18, from Jammu and Kashmir, clinched the gold medal in the women’s compound individual category at the Para World Archery Championships on Saturday, defeating Turkey’s Oznur Cure Girdi 146-143.
The victory marked her third medal at the event. Earlier, she won a mixed team bronze alongside Toman Kumar, beating Great Britain’s Jodie Grinham and Nathan MacQueen 152-149. Sheetal and Sarita also claimed silver in the compound women’s open team final, losing to Turkey.
Sheetal, an armless archer, maintained composure throughout the intense final match. She is now the second armless archer in the world to win gold at a World Championship, after American Paralympic archer Matt Stutzman.
Congratulating her on X, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh wrote: “Many congratulations Sheetal on inspiring a nation and showing the world that nothing is stronger than an unbreakable spirit!”
