ITF Junior Tennis begis at DKS from Monday
Kolkata, Jan 16 (IBNS): Young aspirants from fifteen foreign countries and india will stake their claim for the top honours and valuable points in the 13th leg of ITF junior tennis meet ( grade 3 ) to be held in the hard courts of Dakshin Kalikata Sangsad (DKS) here during January 19 to 24 next.
Briefing media persons today DKS secretary Hiranmoy Chatterjee informed that noted former British tennis professional Tim Henman will formally inaugurate the meet on January 18 while the competition for the main rounds will begin from next day.
Chatterjee said that beside India entries for this meet have been received from United States, Australia ,Russia , Brazil, China, Poland , South Africa, Belgium, Thailand, Uzbekistan,Chinese Taipei, Norway,Phillipnes, Turkey, Israel and Hong Kong.
The competitons would be held for singles and doubles both for boys and girls section. The champion in the singles will earn 60 points while each of the doubles winners will get 50 points each.
Commenting on the future of Indian tennis Chatterjee, a veteran tennis meet organizer for the last three decades and a member of AITA managing committee said he was quite hopeful about the future of Indian tennis . Chatterjee said “ the present lot of junior players in the country are showing good results. I am quite hopeful that they would be able to take the responsibility from the present lot in future”.
