Rajkot, Apr 7 (IBNS): The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) started their IPL campaign on a strong note, thumping Gujarat Lions (GL) by 10 wickets to register a massive win, here on Friday.

Even though the home side set up a steep target of 184 runs for the men from the City of Joy, the latter's batsmen made a mockery of it, as they completed the task with 31 balls to spare.

The KKR opening pair of Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn was also involved in an unbeaten 184-run stand in the process.

Lynn was the more destructive of the two, hitting as many as eight sixes, to go along with his six boundaries in his 41 ball knock.

The Aussie was unbeaten on 93 runs.

His skipper, Gautam Gambhir too scored 76 runs off 48 balls.

The southpaw hit 12 boundaries.

Earlier, KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir won the coin toss and opted to ball first.

The Gujarat team put on 183 runs runs for the loss of four wickets, riding on the back of captain Suresh Raina's knock.

The southpaw scored 68 runs off 51 balls.

His innings consisted of seven boundaries.

Raina was also involved in a 87-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Dinesh Karthik, who played a quickfire knock of 47 runs off 25 balls.

The Chennai-lad hit six boundaries and couple of sixes en route his knock.

However, Gujarat opener Jason Roy (14), Brendon McCullum (35) and middle order batsman Aaron Finch (15) missed out an opportunity to cash in on their respective start.

For Kolkata, Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers, picking up two wickets.

Yadav was followed by Trent Boult and Piyush Chawla, who picked up a wicket each.
