India's Asia Cup selection: Jaiswal to miss out, Gill in consideration for captaincy, says report

Mumbai/IBNS: Despite strong performance in the England Test series, India's young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to miss out from the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, a report by Hindustan Times said.

The selection committee is not keen to disturb the top order of India's T20 squad where Jaiswal is likely to not make a cut.

Shubman Gill, who scored over 700 runs and led India to draw the England series as a captain, is likely to get the charge of the T20 side as well.

India's regular T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav, who has started batting in the nets at National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru recovering from injury, is not yet certain about his comeback.

Suryakumar's medical status is yet to be received by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel.

Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Suryakumar, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya are likely to continue as the crux of India's T20 batting.

While Samson will be the primary wicketkeeper, either of Jitesh Sharma or Dhruv Jurel will be an alternative option, the daily reported.

India's pace bowling sensation Jasprit Bumrah will play in the Asia Cup.

He may skip the inaugural Test against West India in October to manage his workload.

Asia Cup 2025 will begin on September 9 and India will play their first match against UAE on 10th of the same month.
