Indian spinners crush South Africa by 108 runs to win first Test

Mohali, Nov 7 (IBNS): Indian spinners performed brilliantly with Ravindra Jadeja picking up five wickets which helped the hosts crush South Africa by 108 runs to win the first Test here on Saturday.

Winning the match in just three days, R Ashwin took three wickets while Jadeja took five and Amit Mishra picked up one as spinner took nine wickets of the visiting side.

Commencing the day from 125 for two. South African bowlers soon bowled out the Indian side at 200 runs.

The hosts took a lead of 217 runs.

Cheteshwar Pujara remained the top scorer for the side with his 77.

Virat Kohli (29) and Wriddhiman Saha  (20) failed to convert the start they got in the innings.

Spinners shined for South Africa too as Simon Harmer and Imran Tahir took four wickets each to wrap up the Indian innings.

Needing 218 for victory, South African batsmen looked helpless infront of Indian spinners with just  Stiaan van Zyl showing some resistance with his 36.

Sharing nine wickets, the three Indian spinners destroyed the opponents and bowled out South Africa for 109 runs.

India were bowled out for 201 runs in their first innings while South Africa posted 184 runs in their first as the hosts took a slender lead of 17 runs.

India took 1-0 lead in the series.
