India totters at 17/3 on the rain-marred first day against Sri Lanka

Kolkata, Nov 16 (IBNS) : India struggled with rain, bad light and Sri Lanka’s bowlers as it went to stumps at 17-3 Thursday on Day one  of the first test when stumps were drawn early after only  11.5 overs were bowled at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Suranga Lakmal, who picked up three top-order batsmen of the host team - Lokesh Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Virat Kohli without conceding a single run on a green, moist pitch after Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field.

At stumps are Cheteshwar Pujara (8) and Ajinkya Rahane, who is yet to open account.

India's owes began from the very first ball of the game when Lakmal picked up Rahul for a duck. After that Dhawan (8) and Kohli (0) also fell prey to him respectively at the team's total of 13 and 17.

There was only 17 minutes play in the final session. The umpires waited for light to improve, before calling off the day’s play more than an hour before the scheduled time.
