Perth, Feb 28 (IBNS): In a completely one-sided encounter, India thrashed the UAE by nine wickets in a World Cup group stage match here on Sunday and added two more points and maintain the top position in Pool B.

After bowling out the UAE for 102 runs in 31.3 overs, Rohit Sharma (57) and Virat Kohli (33) played sensibly to reach the target of 104 runs for the loss of nine wickets with 187 balls to spare.

After performing well with his willow in the first two matches, Shikhar Dhawan failed in this game as he returned to the pavilion by contributing only 14 runs.

Mohammad Naveed took his wicket and remained the only successful bowler for the  side which had last played the 50-over mega cricket event in 1996.

Adding 75 runs in the second wicket partnership, India easily reached the target at the end as the UAE bowlers lacked the spark needed to trouble the strong Indian batting lineup.

Indian bowlers, specially R Ashwin, performed brilliantly to dismiss the UAE for 102. It i the lowest total in this edition of the World Cup.

Shaiman Anwar put up a spirited performance to score 35 runs which prevented the UAE from being bowled out below the 100 runs mark.

R Ashwin took four wickets for India.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar returned to the side bowled five overs and took a wicket. He replaced  Mohammed Shami in the game.

India currently top the Pool B with 6 points from 3 matches.

Brief scorecard:

UAE 102 all out in 31.3 overs (S Anwar 35; R Ashwin 4-25)

India 104 for 104 for 1 in 18.5 overs (R Sharma 57; M Naveed 1-35)
