Ind vs Aus: Rahul stands firm after Virat's early departure
At lunch, India managed to post 70 runs for the loss of three wickets in reply to Australia's first innings score of 260 runs.
India needed just the five balls in the morning session of play as Ashwin picked up the remaining Aussie wicket, of Mitchell Starc.
Starc, the leader of the Australian pace battery, is also the pick of bowlers as he picked up two wickets in the morning session.
The pacer accounted for Cheteshwar Pujara (6) and Virat Kohli (0).
Earlier, India lost its first wicket for 26 runs, as Murali Vijay (10) was sent back to the pavilion by Josh Hazlewood.
Even though the wickets tumbled at the other end, Indian opener KL Rahul has showed determination and will resume his innings on 47 runs in the second session of play.
The Karnataka lad has played 80 balls, dispatching eight of those (seven fours, one six) for boundaries.
Ajinkya Rahane (6) is at the crease along with Rahul.
So far, India has remained unbeaten in 19 consecutive Test matches, winning 15 of those.
Virat Kohli and his men are the number one side in the ICC rankings for Test cricket.
