ICC World T20: Bangladesh face uphill task as Pakistan score 201/5

Kolkata, Mar 16 (IBNS) Former champions Pakistan got over their Mirpur blues and piled up 201 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their stipulated 20 overs against Bangladesh in their first ICC World T20 match at Eden Gardens here on Wednesday.

Bangladesh,  who beat Pakistan in the last Asia Cup  championship at their home ground in Dhaka last month, failed to live up to the expectation as their bowlers, both pacers and spinners , failed to make any impression on the Pakistani batsmen.

The Pakistani batsmen scored at will and plundered runs punishing Bangladeshi bowlers all around the wicket.

Pakistan suffered early blow when  opener Sharjeel Khan (18) departed. His wicket was picked up by Arafat Sunny as the scorecard read 1-26 after 2.3 overs.

Mohammed Hafeez , who came one down, took charge of the situation and made minced meat of Bangla bowling .

He was finally out  after scoring 64 with 42 balls as he hammered  seven fours and two mighty sixes.

Hafeez was ably assisted by opener Ahmed Shehzad, who made 52 off 39 balls,  hitting   eight boundaries, while  skipper Shahid Afridi  also chipped in with a quickfire 49 off only 19 balls .
He smashed four boundaries and as many sixes.

None of the Bangladesh bowlers  could make much dent on Pakistan batsmen.

Taskin Ahmed  and spinner Arafat Sunny bagged two  wickets each  conceding 32 and 43 runs respectively during their four over spells.
