PyeongChang, Feb 13 (IBNS): Canadian figure skater Eric Radford created history as he became the first openly gay athlete to win a gold medal at any Winter Olympics.

In the ongoing PyeongChang games, Radford took home the gold in the team figure skating event, alongside his partner Meagan Duhamel.

Following his win, the athlete tweeted, "This is amazing! I literally feel like I might explode with pride. #Olympics #outandproud #."

He later posted a photo of himself and US skater Adam Rippon, another gay athlete, and captioned, "So proud that @Adaripp and I get to wear these medals and show the world what we can do! #represent #olympics #pyeongchang2018 #pride #outandproud #medalists #TeamNorthAmerica."

Rippon, who skated to Coldplay's O, and Arrival of the Birds by Cinematic Orchestra, won bronze in the same event.
