Garbine Muguruza stuns Venus Williams, clinches Wimbledon title

London, July 15 (IBNS): Garbine Muguruza of Spain stunned American star Venus Williams to clinch the Wimbledon women's singles title here on Saturday.

Garbine won the title for the first time in her career.

She defeated Venus by  7-5 6-0.

Despite strong challenge in the first set, Venus was completely blown away by her opponent in the second set of the clash which made sure the Spanish player won her first Wimbledon title.

"Two years ago I lost to Serena and she told me maybe one day I would win. Here I am," Garbine was quoted as saying after the victory.

This was Garbine's second Grand Slam title.

Venus' dream of scripting a fairy-tale victory was shattered by strong performance by the Spanish player.

Garbine took an hour and 17 minutes to win the match.
