St Petersburg, Fl, Oct 9 (IBNS) The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) on Thursday, announced that Garbiñe Muguruza has qualified for this year’s BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global.

She joins Simona Halep and Maria Sharapova in the singles field of eight, with five more spots yet to be determined. Muguruza will make her first singles appearance at the WTA Finals Singapore. The Spanish Rising Star qualified in doubles last year with compatriot Carla Suárez Navarro; the two are once again in contention to qualify this year.

“I’m very excited to have qualified for the WTA Finals in Singapore,” said Garbiñe Muguruza. “This has been an exciting year for me. I have worked very hard this last month and I am really happy how it has paid off. Qualifying for Singapore is a great reward. I have great memories from playing doubles last year and this time I am looking forward to competing against the best singles players in the world”.

Muguruza, 22, reached the final last week at the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open and is currently into the quarterfinals at the China Open in Beijing. The Spaniard also reached her debut Grand Slam final at Wimbledon and won two doubles titles at the Aegon Classic Birmingham and Toray PPO - Tokyo (both w/ Suárez Navarro).
