Bangladesh cricketer Litton Das will captain the national side in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February–March.

Das was appointed Bangladesh’s T20 captain in May last year and is expected to play a key role as a top-order batsman during the tournament. Bangladesh have participated in every edition of the T20 World Cup so far but are yet to progress beyond the semi-final stage.

In his international career to date, Das has scored 3,117 runs in Test cricket, 2,569 runs in One-Day Internationals, and 2,655 runs in T20 Internationals, establishing himself as one of Bangladesh’s most experienced batters across formats.

BPL Incident in 2025

Das had previously been in the spotlight during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in 2025, when he was targeted by a section of spectators during a domestic match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

According to The Business Standard, while fielding near the boundary, Das responded to chants of his name from the crowd, only to be met with jeers of “Litton, fake” from some spectators. A video of the incident later went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention.

Despite the episode, Das continues to be a central figure in Bangladesh’s cricketing plans and will now lead the side as it aims for a breakthrough performance at the global tournament.
