Former Test cricket Arvind Apte dies

Mumbai, Aug 6 (IBNS) Former Test cricketer Arvind Apte passed away on Tuesday, said the BCCI.

He died at age 79 in Pune. He was suffering from prostate cancer.

An opening batsman, he played 58 first-class matches from the mid-1950s to the early 1970s. He represented Mumbai and Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy, and played one Test, against England at Leeds, in 1959. 

"Arvind Apte was a fine cricketer and human being. On behalf of the BCCI, I would like to express my condolences to his family and fans," said Sanjay Patel, Hony. Secretary, BCCI
