FIFA launches Forward Programme workshops with member associations and confederations

Zurich, Nov 25 (IBNS): The implementation of FIFA Forward – FIFA’s overhauled development programme – at member association and confederation level will be at the core of a series of workshops organised by world’s football governing body that started this week in Asunción with the participation of all ten South American member associations along with CONMEBOL representatives, an official release stated.

During the sessions, which are set to take place throughout the coming weeks in all confederations and involve all member associations, FIFA’s experts will provide an insight into Forward’s contract of agreed objectives, which defines the framework for the use of FIFA’s tailor-made development support and analyses the respective development priorities and objectives.

The gatherings will also include an integrity module that aims to discuss the implementation of specific programmes to protect football at national level.

“Maintaining close contact with the member associations and confederations is essential to guaranteeing the successful implementation of Forward. Our intention is to listen to their development needs in order to support and reflect their priorities in the contracts of agreed objectives,” said Joyce Cook, FIFA Chief Member Associations Officer.

FIFA’s member associations and confederations will have until June 1, 2017, to complete their contracts of agreed objectives.

Through FIFA Forward, FIFA’s member associations can access up to USD 5 million per four-year cycle: USD 750,000 per year for football projects such as pitches, competitions and women’s football, and USD 500,000 per year for running costs in areas including administration and governance.

Confederations, which will also have to sign contracts of agreed objectives, are entitled to receive up to USD 40 million every four years.

The workshops are part of a variety of initiatives implemented recently by FIFA with a view to promoting exchanges on development matters with member associations and confederations. Such initiatives include the Executive Football Summits.
