FIFA bans Lionel Messi for four years over misconduct

Zurich, Mar 28 (IBNS): International Federation of Association Football banned Argentina football player Lionel Messi for four years, over the charge of abusing assistant referee during Argentina-Chile match of qualifying tournament for World Cup 2018, according to media reports on Tuesday.

Messi, who has been banned under article 77a and 1080of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC) would miss qualifying matches against Bolivia, Uruguay, Peru and Venezuela.

Apart from the ban, the football player is fined a CHF 10,000.

The Argentinian Football Association would plead FIFA to lift the ban though he is likely to miss the match against Bolivia that will be played on March 28.
