Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal was hospitalised on Monday after he suffered a heart attack.

According to reports, the star cricketer fell ill following the toss of a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan.

The Mohammedan Sporting Club skipper was rushed to Fazilatunnesa Hospital, where doctors confirmed he suffered two heart attacks but is now improving, BCB’s chief medical officer Debashis Chowdhury told Dhaka Tribune.

Hospital sources told the Bangladeshi newspaper that a stent was placed in his heart.

Match referee Debabrata Paul, who is currently visiting the hospital, told The Daily Star newspaper: "Out of his two arteries, one is 100 percent blocked another is partially blocked."

The doctors at the hospital told The Daily Star that a stent had been placed in the coronary artery and Tamim had been shifted to the CCU.

The officials initially thought of flying Tamim to Dhaka for treatment.

However, he was admitted to Fazilatunnesa Hospital after his condition deteriorated.

Meanwhile, some media reports claim he is currently on life support.

Interim government chief Yunus enquires about Tamim

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has enquired about the health condition of the former Bangladeshi international cricketer.

On behalf of the chief adviser, his Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder spoke to Bangladesh Cricket Board Chief Executive Officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, reported Daily Star.

Tamim, who is known for his flamboyant batting, played 70 Tests, 243 ODIs, and 78 T20 internationals for Bangladesh.
