England defeat India by 31 runs in first Test, take 1-0 lead

Birmingham, Aug 4 (IBNS): England defeated India in a thrilling first Test match of the series by 31 runs to take 1-0 lead in the series here on Saturday.

Walking down the field to chase 194 for victory, England bowled out India for 162 runs.

Virat Kohli added 51 runs with the willow.

He remained the top scorer for the side.

Hardik Pandya tried to save India and cruise to victory with his heroic 31 runs knock.

He played four boundaries in his patient innings.

Stokes picked up his wicket to clinch England early victory.

He picked up four wickets for England.

Experienced Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad took two wickets each.
