DAV Chandigarh, South Point, La Martiniere Girls and Jatragachi Pranavananda win titles in K C Mahindra All India School Regatta

Kolkata, May 13 (IBNS): DAV from Chandigarh, Jatragachi Pranavananda School “B”  from North 24 Parganas district and city based South Point High School and La Martiniere Girls  “A” bagged the covete titles winning their races in their respective groups of the 46th K C Mahindra All India Invitation School Regatta, which concluded at Lake Club on Rabindra Sarovar here Saturday.

Both DAV Chandigarh and Jatragachi Pranavananda retained the titles they had won last year.

DAV boys in the senior Boys group, which was represented by Akashdeep Singh, Shahwinder Singh, Gaurav Malik and Lovepreet Sigh, timed 1m 54.17 sec to beat St. Lawrence easily.

For Jatragachi boys, it is a dream come true as hailing from very poor economic condition in rural area where their parents perform very ordinary job like security guards and Toto drivers, they competed with the elite and noted schools in the city to bag the top position.

In the finals on Saturday, Jatragachi was represented by Rejayan Molla, Gautam Bairagi, Afridi Ali and Rajesh Ali Molla r outrowed  DAV Kolkata clocking  2m 5.34 sec.

Senior Girls South Point High School, which was represented by Sudarshana Patra, Shreeja Basu, Janhavi Majumder and Anoushka Chakravarti, defeated G D Birla School comparatively easily  clocking 2m19.19 sec over the 500 metre course.

The Junior Girls final however produced the most keenly contested race of the day where La Martiniere  Girls  “A” team consisted of Yashvi Singhania,Trisha Agarwal, Shreesha Agarwal and Khusi Agarwal deeated G D Birla  by a whisker. La Martiniere timed 2m 15.03 sec.

Earlier in the third place deciding races, Ashoke Hall defeated Sushila Birla (Junior Girls), La Martiniere Boys “A” beat  Jatragachi “B” ( Junior Boys), Ballygunge Siksha Sadan out rowed Delhi Public School (senior girls) and South Point High School  got the better of National High School CBSE “ after  a tough fight ( senior boys).

Former Asian Games Gold Medalists oarsman Vajrang Lal Thakkar and Rowing Federation of India Secretary Girish Phadnis along with West Bengal Rowing Association President Ajay Gupta and Lake Club President M V Kulkarni distributed the trophies and medals to the respective winners. (EOM).
