Mumbai, May 22 (IBNS): A brilliant knock by South African skipper Faf du Plessis crushed Sunrisers Hyderabad's dream of reaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) final directly from the first qualifier match of the playoffs, as the men-in-yellow clinched a stunning two-wicket victory at the Wankhede Stadium here on Tuesday.

Chennai are now through to final of the tournament.

Chasing a target of 140, Chennai suffered a batting collapse but it was Faf's unbeaten 67-run knock from 42 balls scripted the yellow brigade's win against Hyderabad with five balls to spare. Chennai scored 140/8 in 19.1 overs.

Not to forget, Faf was aptly supported by Shardul Thakur, who played a brilliant cameo of unbeaten 15 off just five balls.

Defending a low total of 139/7, Hyderabad hit Chennai early boasting on Rashid Khan's (2/11 in four overs), Bhuvneshwar Kumar's (1/14 in 3.1 overs), Sandeep Sharma's (2/30 in three overs), Siddharth Kaul's (2/32 in four overs) bowling performances.

Earlier Windies player Carlos Brathwaite's 43 (29) helped Hyderabad to put 139 on the scoreboard.

Hyderabad will now have to win the second qualifier match to reach the final.

The second qualifier match will be played between Hyderabad and the winner of the eliminator match, which will be a contest between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday.
