Argentina ended Cape Verde's dream FIFA World Cup campaign in the Round of 32 last week, but the defeat did little to overshadow the remarkable rise of goalkeeper Vozinha, who has emerged as one of the tournament's biggest breakout stars.

The 40-year-old shot-stopper has become a global social media sensation, with his follower count surging dramatically as football fans around the world took notice of his performances.

Vozinha first captured global attention with a stunning display in Cape Verde's goalless draw against Spain, producing a series of crucial saves that left fans and pundits alike in awe.

His on-field heroics quickly translated into online popularity. According to reports, Vozinha had around 50,000 Instagram followers when the tournament began. Since then, his account has witnessed explosive growth, with millions of new followers joining during the World Cup.

A report by Punch said his Instagram following jumped from about 1.5 million in June to 19.1 million in July—an increase of more than 18 million followers during the tournament. Some social media users have also claimed his follower count has climbed even higher, highlighting the extraordinary attention he has received.

The surge reflects not only Vozinha's individual brilliance but also the global admiration Cape Verde earned during its historic World Cup debut.

With a population of just over 530,000, Cape Verde may have bowed out in the Round of 32, but the team won hearts across the footballing world with its fearless performances against some of the sport's biggest nations.

Speaking to FIFA.com before the tournament, Vozinha said representing his country on the biggest stage was beyond anything he had imagined.

"It's incredible. I never expected this. At the end of the day, it's all for Cabo Verde," he said.

"It's all for our people. I'm grateful to all the fans, including those in Brazil, because they have shown tremendous support for both the Cabo Verdean people and the national team. This is all for Cabo Verde."
