BRC: Ishpreet, Shrikrishna vie for Sub-Junior Billiards title

Kolkata, Jan 4 (IBNS): The stage is set for a scintillating Sub-Junior Billiards final tomorrow with S. Shrikrishna of Tamil Nadu setting up the title clash with defending champion Ishpreet Chadha of Maharashtra at the BRC-Gloster National Billiards and Snooker Championship at the Bengal Rowing Club.

In the semi-final match, Ishpreet Chadha was trailing by nearly 40 points against Hritik Jain of Madhya Pradesh but set himself for a break of 96 points to recover and post a decent lead.

However, Hritik once again tried to overcome the pressure and brought down his trail to 30 points but Ishpreet did not falter and sealed the one-hour duration match by 79 points (296-217).

In the semi-final on Sunday, Shrikrishna defeated Suraj Rathi of Maharashtra 334-198 to confirm his berth for the final.

Suraj had his chances on a few occasions, but failed to get into the right position. Every time he missed, Shrikrishna capitalized on the chance and kept increasing his lead.

Earlier in the day, Hritik Jain won his last-16 and quarter-final matches quite easily. He defeated Kewal Mahadeshwar of Maharashtra 371-61 (in Last-16 match) and Johnson Narsidani of Gujarat 166-78 in the quarter-finals.

Shrikrishna, too, had a smooth journey to the Semis. He won his earlier matches comfortably. In the last-16, he defeated Rohit Yadav of Assam 369-100 and Kreishh Gurbaxani of Maharahstra 394-189 in quarter-finals.

The last-16 match between Johnson Narsidani and Kaavya Bharath was very close where Johnson registered 7 points win in one hour match.

Sub-Junior Snooker

The matches for the preliminary round of Sub-Junior Snooker also started today. There was no major upset but the match between Rishabh Gulati (Delhi) and Nikesh Ranjan (Bihar) fell into the decider that Rishabh won on the pink ball game.
