Kolkata/IBNS: Ailing former Indian skipper and national cricket board president Sourav Ganguly is now stable after undergoing Angioplasty at a south Kolkata hospital on Saturday.

Ganguly, 48, was admitted to Woodlands Hospital in the afternoon after suffering "chest discomfort" while working out at his home.

The hospital said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president had suffered a minor cardiac issue while exercising on the treadmill.

Dr Rupali Basu, Woodlands hospital MD and CEO, said in a statement, "Mr Sourav Ganguly, 48 years old, President BCCI, former Captain of Indian Cricket team and eminent personality suffered from chest discomfort while doing treadmill at his home gym. He had a family history of IHD Ischemic heart disease.

"When he came to the hospital at 1pm, his pulse was 70/min, BP 130/80 mm of Hg and other clinical parameters were within normal limits."

"His ECG showed hyper acute ST segment elevation in inferior leads and lateral leads. Echo showed mild inferior wall hypokynaesia  with preserved overall left ventricular function. He is stable haemodynamically. He has received loading doses of dual anti platelets and statin and is undergoing primary angioplasty now," the statement added.

As per latest reports, Ganguly was given toast and soup for dinner.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had earlier tweeted wishing Ganguly's speedy recovery, visited the hospital in the evening.

"The doctors have taken good initiative and steps instead of going into operation straightaway," said Banerjee while talking to the press.

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, state Ministers Firhad Hakim and Aroop Biswas had also visited the hospital.

Ganguly, who was already in news for the last few days due to speculations over his joining in politics, was wished for speedy recovery by his former colleagues and millions of his fans on the internet.

Cricket legend and Ganguly's one of the closest teammates during his playing days, Sachin Tendulkar, tweeted, "Just got to know about your ailment Sourav. Hope each passing day brings you closer to a full and speedy recovery! Get well soon."

"Praying for your speedy recovery. Get well soon," tweeted Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli.

"Wishing speedy recovery to Sourav Ganguly. My thoughts are with his family and fans at this hour. Hope to see him back soon," tweeted Indian team head coach Ravi Shastri.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a tweet, "I wish and pray for the speedy recovery of Sourav Ganguly. I’ve spoken to his family. Dada is stable and is responding well to the treatment."
